Chris Korzenecki – Merit Consultant and JumpStart Graduate

When he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chris Korzenecki would never have predicted he would end up as an Operations Consultant at a software company. But three years later, that’s just where he is.

Korzenecki’s original plans were to become an Emergency Medicine Physician’s Assistant due to the fast-paced environment. He began to pursue a minor in business as his interest in the business side of the biotechnology and medical industries grew. Following graduation, he worked as a direct sales engineer, delivering an automated, fluorescence microscope to biotechnology companies and academic research institutions.

Then, the father of a friend suggested he consider a consulting role at Merit Solutions and Korzenecki was intrigued. This role would provide him with the ability to use his degree uniquely.

“We discussed the idea of making a career switch,” says Korzenecki. “Having the combination of a biology background and my previous role’s professional experience seemed to be half the puzzle and I was open to learn. I am able to understand the “hows and whys” behind the life science processes of Merit’s clients and have more productive conversations with the clients,” he adds.

Korzenecki joined Merit Solutions under a mentorship-based development program designed to help early-career professionals with varying backgrounds find quick success in a consulting role. The initial phases of the program focused on self-study, hands-on use of the software, and completing certification exams for Microsoft Dynamics 365: Core Finance and Operations. After a few months, Chris’ responsibilities expanded and he began designing, testing, and documenting Merit for Life Science features. After gaining the technical and functional knowledge required, Chris was assigned to his first on-site project where he was able to directly contribute during the support to stable phase.

“The structure of the program helped me get up to speed much quicker than I expected. It provided a great foundation to build upon,” says Korzenecki. “I arrived on-site prepared to be an efficient resource, while also having the fundamental understanding to further my knowledge and consulting skills. A mentorship-based development program helps you learn about Merit Solutions overall and its market and products.

You’ll follow a learning pathway consisting of self-study coursework, hands-on product training, certifications, and mentoring by other team members.

 

Week 13

You’re ready for assignment!

 

One of the key benefits of the program is the ability for young

professionals in related industries — such as biotech and pharmaceuticals —

 to transition seamlessly into the Merit Solutions consulting team.
